Color My Finger Blue! I Voted for the Hugo!

I have voted for the Hugos for the first time in my life. For those of my friends who aren’t geeks, the Hugo is a fan voted award (think ‘People’s Choice Award’) given to the best works in science fiction and fantasy for the year. Given that the works are nominated and voted on by any fan willing to cough

Customer Service Don’ts, Or Why We Dropped Our Home Security Provider

To start with, I goofed. When we enrolled with our provider (not naming names so HSP)HSP, I set up auto pay using a debit card that expired a couple of months later. The card expired, the billing fell behind and HSP cut off/cancelled our service. I noticed the trouble light on the alarm pad and called in to find out

Adam to the left, Isaac in the middle, and Luke on the right. Three brothers brewing beer.

Cold Fusion is Not a Myth; It’s a Brewery!

A new microbrewery is about to start up in Knoxville, run by thee of my sons, Adam, Isaac, and Luke. Our family drinks far more than its share of beer; it’s about time we start giving it back!

Third National Flag of the Confederacy. I don't fly the Battle Flag because I am not at war. I have been known to fly the 3rd National Flag because of what it represents to me.

Activism: What We Do Instead of Doing Something

A man goes into a church and murders nine African-Americans and so we ban a flag, dig up a few dead bodies, argue about slavery and a war that’s been over for 100+ years, then sink back into our Naugahyde Barcaloungers, secure in the warm self congratulatory glow that we’ve demonstrated just how much we care. The sad part is

Follow the links for Part 1, Part 2a, Part 2b, and Part 2c This is the last part of my AAR report on LibertyCon so let us all bow our heads in thankful silence. The picture is not one you would normally associate with LibertyCon, but if you

CONsummation: LibertyCon After Action Report Part 2c, Sunday

This is part 3 of an increasingly ineptly named trilogy of posts. Follow the links for Part 1 and Part 2a and Part 2b And now our voyage is almost complete! We’ve arrived at Sunday, the last day of the con. This summation of the con has not been very summary, but then again one should never rush consummation in

CONsummation: LibertyCon After Action Report Part 2b, Saturday.

This is part 3 of an increasingly inaccurately named trilogy of posts. Follow the links for Part 1 and Part 2. And we come to Saturday and the real fun begins. Panels started at 10AM and ran until 1AM. Yep, AM skipping right through the PM back into AM. So for those of you with short attention spans or limited

The Scarlet Gospels is a sequel to The Great and Secret Show, Everville, and The Hellbound Heart, featuring both the Cenobite Hell Priest (Don't call him Pinhead) and Harry D'Amour

The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker

Picture a boxer standing in a gym, getting ready to work out. Not a lumbering heavyweight or a junior mosquito weight, but a middle weight or cruiser weight, between 160 and 200lbs. Muscular, massive, no extra fat, and every muscle developed for purpose, not show. Standing still, he radiates power, purpose and focus. The bell sounds and he explodes into

Why I Love Women’s Sports.

Okay, first of all, I love to watch sports in general. Mostly football, but I’ll watch significant games in pretty much any sport. Even Curling, which hardly counts as a sport. It’s like housekeeping on ice. But I digress. But there’s something about watching women’s team sports that really appeals to me, and it isn’t the uniforms, or wardrobe malfunctions

CONsummation: LibertyCon After Action Report Part 2a

Our first panel was the “What’s New in Space Opera” and boy, did it set the tone for the rest of the con. It started off with defining the difference between space opera and science fiction, (Space Opera=Star Wars, Science Fiction = Star Trek) but quickly devolved into a discussion of the appendages of mythological creatures.
